A new campaign by the FSF outlines the 7 sins of Windows: 1. Poisoning education, 2. Invading privacy, 3. Monopoly behavior, 4 Lock-in, 5. Abusing standards, 6. Enforcing Digital Restrictions Management (DRM), 7. Threatening user security.
The campaign advocates to use Free Software instead of windows.

THE FREE SOFTWARE FOUNDATION (FSF) is to write to the leaders of 500 of the most influential non-governmental organizations (NGOs) worldwide to urge them to refuse Windows 7. The move is a stepping up of the FSF's campaign timed to coincide with the launch of Windows 7 and follows an earlier letter sent to 499 chief executives of Fortune 500 companies.

In its "Windows 7 Sins" campaign, the Free Software Foundation has labeled Windows 7 as "treacherous computing," and accuses Microsoft of such acts as "poisoning education." But Apple is arguably even more closed than Microsoft, yet always gets a free ride from vociferous open source proponents. Can anyone explain this hypocrisy?

GNU guru Richard Stallman sent me an e-mail the other day complaining that we erred by saying that the Free Software Foundation, of which he's president, promotes open source software. "We have never supported the idea of 'open source' because that idea denies the importance of users' freedom," he writes.

"In a letter that recently came with Free Software Foundation's Bulletin Peter Brown poses an invitation to "help us build Libre planet - a base for free software activists and community" going on "your support will help launch Libre Planet by August 2007"."

[Windows7Sins] has received too a lot of negative criticism, thought, centered in an idea somewhat similar to the one I exposed in the beginning: “We must center on the good things free software can offer, instead of the enemy’s bad points”.

Tomorrow the Free Software Foundation plans to launch the windows7sins campaign, similiar to the BadVista campaign that ran for Windows Vista. From the info-member list:
