With Fedora 9, the Fedora project continues its tradition of being the most innovative major distribution, combining new applications from other distributions as well as its own inventions. However, in no other release has Fedora walked the line between leading edge and bleeding edge so precariously.

Desktop Linux Distribution is getting fame in every day use among home users and even office users. Given the choice to select from a huge list of Desktop Linux Distributions home users are ought to get confused and it’s not unusual that they do distro-hopping in the quest of what is so called "the best" for them.

The reason I was personally looking at Fedora 11 is that I wanted to see what the very latest MAPI setup in Linux looked like. Fedora is not only the most recent release of the major distros: Fedora also prides itself on being the most bleeding edge of the Distros.

The third bugfix release of the KDE 4.0 series is available. KDE 4.0 is mainly targeted at users who live on the bleeding edge. As a dot-oh release it might have its rough edges. The KDE Community releases a service update for this series once a month to make those bleeding edge users' lives easier. The changelog for KDE 4.0.3 is, although not complete, quite impressive.

One of the first things that confounds new users is that GNU/Linux is not a single operating system. Instead, it's the general name for hundreds of closely related operating systems -- distributions or distros, as they are usually called. All the distros share the Linux kernel and include many of the same utilities and programs, but differ in purposes and the resulting customizations.

Fedora makes a great choice for both beginners and advanced users as it balances stability and cutting edge applications. The Fedora distribution effectively fills the needs of home users, programmers and servers alike. Unlike many Linux distros, Fedora always includes the latest versions of software this adds to the excitement of its releases which happen every 6-8 months.

The six month update cycles of major Linux distributions guarantees that there will be plenty of fresh releases for every spring and fall. At the end of 2007 we ranked the best distributions of the year, but as most distros have been refreshed since it is time to have another look at the current Linux offering.
