The Free Software Foundation (FSF) today announced a new internship program for free software activists, inviting students to apply for its first round of openings by Monday, May 25th.

The FSF is offering a number of new educational opportunities for students to come work at its Boston headquarters, helping out with campaign and community organizing, programming, free software licensing, and more. Applications for the first term are due May 25.

Must be a US citizen. The FSF is hiring a second Campaigns Manager to be part of a team that directs and coordinates our campaigns for software freedom. This is an opportunity to take a senior role in the organization that sponsors the GNU project, publishes the GNU GPL and works to promote the message that software freedom is a civil liberty.

I have compiled 23 of the most outstanding free/open source software. If these software have price tags, I would consider them the most expensive and valuable. The list was judged according to how I view their significance in the field of technology and the benefits that they have given to society.

Max Shinn is a high school student and is doing the FSF internship program. Max recounts his experience with free software and shares the story of how a school research assignment led him to discover the ideals of GNU and the free software movement. Max has been tasked with the project of reaching out and inviting the youth to get involved in free software.

The Software Freedom Law Center is now inviting applications for a resident legal experience designed for practicing lawyers interested in learning more about open source software through direct on-site exposure to SFLC's open source software law practice. Positions are somewhat flexible in scope and duration: SFLC will work with applicants to design a program lasting approximately 2-4 weeks.

Whitehouse.gov has a petition to advocate and gradually replace in US schools software with restrictive licensing in favor of open source alternatives with GPL type licenses. In as much as possible we should have our students using software that complies with the definition of free software as defined by the Free Software Foundation.
