After much deliberation and review, I've decided to recant my previous blog entry. I no longer believe that the Linux kernel should be forked.

Just a few months ago, I decided that I would install a linux operating system in my notebook, though being a Windows fan. So I decided that I can directly jump to the latest version of Ubuntu, Jaunty Jackalope, version 9.04.

Another incident of Microsoft's software dumping strategy has been spotted in the UK. This time they're dumping 4500 "senior PCs" (later to be scaled up to 10000) containing software licensed under a "social software model" (whatever that means).

There's no way around it: the longer you run a Windows installation, the slower and less responsive it gets. On my year-old dual-boot laptop, I wait longer and longer for Windows to boot, and longer and longer for programs to do what I ask.

Since about a week or so I’ve been running Ubuntu and Windows Vista in dual boot. I’ve had Windows Vista for a longer time already and after trying Ubuntu from the LiveCD I decided it was time to install it for real.

With the 10.04 version of Ubuntu Linux, there is now a way to install Ubuntu Linux onto a Windows Computer without having to repartition the hard drive. This feature alone has the potential of increasing the Linux User Base dramatically. No longer do you have to worry about "messing up your system" or try to figure out how to get rid of the Grub Boot loader and delete Linux Partitions.

Finally I got some time away from my work and I decided to explore something new. I decided to install Ubuntu. I am familiar with Windows and the Mac but I haven’t really touched Ubuntu. So I shrink my Windows Vista partition by 60 GB and throw in Ubuntu to dual-boot.

What good is having a large display if you're constantly rearranging windows to fit them on the screen? I got tired of try to fit a web browser with other smaller windows and decided to try xmonad, a tiling window manager that could do this for me.
