OpenSUSE departures noted, Novell defends its OpenSUSE trademark

On October 12, 2013, KDE Forums reached a significant milestone: their five year anniversary. The KDE Community Forums is the main way users can receive support from KDE. The Forums have more than 40,000 threads and over 200,000 posts. With a large number of registered users, the Forums make up the foundation for KDE user support and communication about software and applications.

I noticed Jim by his thoughtful replies on openSUSE mail lists and forums. He has ability to listen, understand and answer in the way that correspondent can not only find correct, but also understand, which is seldom found talent.

Today, a major upgrade of the KDE Community Forums took place. The change brings quite a number of changes to the forums themselves, and it’s a further step towards providing a better experience for KDE users.

The issue of how long a Linux distribution will support a release is one that tends to go back and forth. Novell's openSUSE Linux is now revising its policy. Starting with the openSUSE 11.2, maintenance support will be approximately 18 months which is reduction of 6 months from what openSUSE 11.1 and prior offered users.

One of the strong points of the Ubuntu community is the forums. To many new users, the ability to get quick answers to their questions for free is an incredible resource. Unfortunately, not every user has a great experience on the forums. WorksWithU recently posted a list of tips for those giving support on the Ubuntu forums.
