Often Linux evangelists focus on those who already have a technical bent through initiatives such as software freedom day. The Ubuntu community in Massachusetts decided its time to reach out to a new crowd.

Morevna is an open source anime project made using open source tools like Synfig, Blender, GIMP and Krita. Unlike Project London Movie, Morevna is not only created using free and open source tools, but Morevna anime will also be released and distributed as free content. This project definitely deserves a lot of appreciation.

The Ubuntu 8.10 Linux distribution, code named the Intrepid Ibex will reach its end-of-life on April 30th.

The Morevna Project aims to create an animated film in a modern anime-style retelling a very old Russian folktale known as "Marya Morevna". It's a free culture production project pushing the envelope in several ways - entirely using free software tools and releasing under the free Creative Commons Attribution license.

Most of the readers of this blog probably already know about Big Buck Bunny, Blender's open movie project codenamed Peach; some may even know about Sintel (Durian). Few, however, know about the Morevna project, an anime project dedicated to using only open-source tools in its production.

Linux Mint 6 Felicia will reach end of life on April 30, 2010. This release was based on Ubuntu 8.10 which is planned to reach end-of-life at the same date.
