The Fedora Project offered a peek under its kimono recently with details about Fedora 7 adoption and other statistics. Fedora 7 has snagged more than 300,000 users since its release at the end of May. While that sounds pretty good, Fedora Core 6 managed to attract more than 400,000 in roughly the same amount of time after its release.

I've been running Fedora for some time at home and on several work computers--most recently the latest Fedora 10 development branches. I ventured out to try OpenSuse, and brought in Beta 5. I must admit, I was blown away. I had last run OpenSuse a year or so ago, and was not as impressed as I was with Ubuntu at the time.

Fedora releases usually generate more yawns than a Ben Affleck movie for me but this time, they've gone the extra mile. I placed Fedora at number 7 in my 10 Best Linux Distributions post but now that I've seen Fedora 10, I may have to reorder the list and place Fedora at number 5 or 6.

As far as I'm concerned, the only thing that forces me to use Windows or Mac from time to time is lack of Microsoft Office World, Excel and PowerPoint 2007 in Linux. In the web you can find info how to install it using wine in Ubuntu, but I could not find much about Fedora, especially Fedora 12. Today I’d like to talk about my experiences with Fedora 12 over the last couple of weeks. I’ve been running it as my main desktop and really getting a feel for how it ticks. Fedora is the community release from corporate Linux giants Red Hat. The next Linux I'm trying on the Acer Aspire One is Fedora. Judging from their information page, Fedora 10, 11, and 12 all work on the Aspire One, with different limitations. Fedora 12 has a few too many unresolved issues at this time, so I've downloaded Fedora 11.

I became a Fedora contributor after experiencing what I felt was a highly polished distro and outstanding support from the Fedora user community. I had attempted to become a contributor for another distro, but the process required to do so ended up being so long and difficult that I just gave up and moved on.
