Ubuntu's One Hundred Papercuts project seems to be progressing smoothly. On schedule, the first ten papercuts have been fixed.

Just about a year ago, Ubuntu developers undertook the first "100 Papercuts" campaign to fix trivial bugs on the desktop.  But servers get papercuts, too...

Remember when Mark Shuttleworth announced Canonical was putting together a usability and design team? That team has announced their first major project, called One Hundred Papercuts. The idea, as described by David Siegel (member of the team and Gnome Do developer) is to select one hundred easily fixable bugs that are day to day minor annoyances to the user and fix them for the next release.

Coming on the heels of the campaign announced last summer to fix 100 "papercuts" in Ubuntu before the 9.10 release, a new round of usability bugs have recently been targeted for Ubuntu 10.04.  Here's a look at some of the most notable ones slated to be fixed in coming weeks.

Canonical aims to improve the Ubuntu user experience by fixing a multitude of minor usability glitches. The project, which is called One Hundred Paper Cuts, will entail a collaborative effort by Canonical's new design team and the Ubuntu community to fix one hundred usability bugs before the release of Ubuntu 9.10.

No matter what other distro I try to use on a daily basis, and no matter how many little “papercuts” annoy me in Ubuntu, I can’t help but come back to it as my daily driver.

Last week marked the release of the Ubuntu 9.04 Beta and this week there is the planned release of the Fedora 11 Beta. Being the Linux benchmarking fanatics that we are, we set out to run a few performance tests comparing the Ubuntu 9.04 Beta to the latest Rawhide packages that will make up today's Fedora 11 Beta release.

This week's Jaunty Jackalope release was Ubuntu's 10th release and the 9th release that I've used myself. I first became aware of Ubuntu in 2005 with the 'Hoary Hedgehog' release for only one reason, Debian Sarge was AWOL.

Just as KDE 3.5 was intended to be a stabilizing, long-term release, the primary goal of KDE SC 4.5 is to fix outstanding bugs and increase stability. Users will not be blown away by the new features, but there are a few worth noting. Last week I installed the release candidate for KDE SC 4.5 from the Kubuntu repositories and took it for a spin.
