Heroes of Newerth (or HoN) requires an invite to play, but it's developers created an HoN Holiday Open Registration form so you can sign-up for Heroes of Newerth for free - for the next 83 hours

Heroes of Newerth (commonly known as HoN) is a free-to-play action/real-time strategy game based on DotA. The developer S2 Games announced last Friday that HoN is now free-to-play. HoN is heavily inspired by the popular Warcraft 3 mod, Defense of the Ancients (DotA), but with vast improvements in graphics and gameplay.

It’s not that Linux as an OS isn’t capable of running quality games, it’s just that game manufacterers don’t think the Linux gamers can make them any money. For that reason, it’s always nice when a game is released with a native Linux version.

Linux games are many and varied. You can find pretty much anything you need, from simple arcades via racing all the way to expansive and elaborate tactical shooters. Still, one aspect of the Linux gaming scene is underplayed, this being the Real Time Strategy (RTS). However, that is about to change.

Heroes of Might and Magic V is the next installment in the venerable and long-standing Heroes of Might and Magic series... The six towns that will appear in Heroes V are the humans, Haven, the demons, Inferno, the necromancers, Necropolis, the dark elves, Dungeon, the wizards, Academy, and the elves, on Linux with Wine 1.0

Savage 2: A Tortured Soul is a fantasy / science fiction, real-time strategy, fps, rpg game is a sequel to to S2 Games’ Savage : Battle for Newerth. Both teams of human and beasts are pitted against each other in a gameplay where strategy, agility and alertness is needed. Activities such as kills, deaths, assists, building razes, damage and score points are tracked.

It seems as if Linux gamers are indeed really excited for having new games on Linux, well, "really excited" may still be an understatement. About 24 hours ago we talked about Heroes of Newerth, a game being developed by S2 Games, was coming to Linux and we were able to hand out beta invitations to begin playing the game immediately as part of their closed testing process.
