Linux distributor Novell has published the financial results of its second fiscal quarter of 2010. Compared to the second quarter of 2009, net revenue fell slightly from $216 million to $204 million

At the close of trading Thursday, Microsoft announced the results for its second quarter of fiscal year 2010, which ended December 31, 2009. Revenue of $19.02 billion, a 14 percent increase from the same period of the prior year, set a new a record for the company.

Red Hat (NYSE: RHT) is set to report its third-quarter fiscal 2010 earnings at the close of market today -- capping off an active quarter of new releases and business activities for the enterprise Linux vendor.

Novell Wednesday reported the net income loss for the third quarter of its 2007 fiscal year fell by nearly 50% compared to the same quarter last year, and the company said revenue was up nearly 3% to $243 million.

Red Hat announced fourth-quarter financial results showing a 15 percent increase in revenues year-over-year. In other news, the company announced new JBOSS and SOA tools, tipped a collaboration with IBM on cloud technology, and revealed customer wins with the Symbian Foundation and the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

The European Union held its meetings on Oracle's acquisition of Sun last week, and the decision should be forthcoming by January 19th. In the meantime, MySQL creator Monty Widenius is calling for a letter-writing campaign to "help save MySQL from Oracle's clutches.

Well, that only took six years and change. As part of its discussion of its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal 2010 ended in January, Dana Russell, chief financial officer at operating system and systems software maker Novell, said that the SUSE Linux business was at break-even, what he called "a significant milestone."
