The answer to this
If you find that the BSD license is more friendly to those that wish to develop proprietary style software, then use the BSD license and not the GPL which would prevent this. It's a free world(if you don't use M$).
However, exception must be taken with the comment;
"While the proprietary app developer is motivated by money, the free software developers are motivated by mimicking functionality."
I think that a very arguable case could be made that more genuine innovation has emerged from the Free Software Community than has ever been produced by proprietary software, especially M$.
