SUNNYVALE, Calif. (Sept. 19, 2008) — As software developers the world over prepare to mark the 25th anniversary of the GNU System, Silicon Graphics, Inc. (NASDAQ: SGIC) today announced it is releasing a new version of the SGI Free Software License B.

Senforce Technologies, a small Draper, Utah, company that makes software to protect laptops and other wireless devices from security threats, has been bought by Novell. The deal closed Monday. Financial terms weren't disclosed by Waltham, Mass.-based Novell, which was established 24 years ago in Provo, Utah, and still employs 1,600 people at its office building an hour south of Salt Lake City.

SiCortex, claiming to be the first company to engineer a Linux cluster from the silicon up, has secured $10 million in venture capital. The funds have arrived as the company "launches its super energy efficient high performance Linux cluster computers," SiCortex said.

Practical Technology has learned from several sources that Linspire, the San Diego, Calif-based Linux distributor is being bought out by Xandros, the Canadian desktop Linux vendor.

The fact that SGI was acquired by Rackable Systems for the sad sum of $25 million was big news on Wednesday only because most people had forgotten that the company, formerly better known as Silicon Graphics, still existed.

Another day, another company developing Linux-based tech falls into line with Microsoft's intellectual property wonks. Japanese Flash maker I-O Data Device Inc has agreed to cough up an undisclosed sum of cash to Microsoft under a Linux software deal. This is the latest such agreement Microsoft has made with a tech company that uses Linux in its products.

Washington, DC - January 12, 2011 - Wine-Reviews Inc. today announced it acquired The Bordeaux Technology Group., a Greenville, SC-based Wine services company.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
