For anyone who ever loved and played the famous Worms PC game series, then Wormux is the game for you. Even if you weren't much of a fan (like myself) of the original Works series, you'll find Wormux none the less captivating and enjoyable, and even addictive in some respects.
Wormux is an open source clone of the classic game Worms. It's a multiplayer turn-based game in which teams of open source mascots battle on a deformable landscape with a variety of weapons. Wormux 0.8 was recently released, bringing networked multiplayer, new maps, weapons, bugfixes, and more.
If you have played and liked the open source Worms clone Wormux, then you should definitely try Hedgewars. It's a turn-based strategy game featuring teams of hedgehogs battling on destructible terrain. Hedgewars includes lots of fun weapons, great sound effects, can generate random maps or play pre-made ones, and includes a good computer AI as well as online play.
The basic mission of players is to eliminate all other players from the game in a funny way. You control a team of creatures, be it a penguin or Pigeon or a bull.
Previously known as Wormux, WarMUX is a free, open-source clone of the popular game Worms, with completely new, free-licensed graphics and music/sounds, available for Linux, Windows and Mac. Starting with version 0.9.0, WarMUX introduced single player games versus AI too. The available game modes are single player (vs AI) and multiplayer on the online server, as well as hotseat games.
A cute, fun and free game. The latest release was in February 2009. Graphics have been improved. Characters added and few extra tracks. Check out the game.
