A bit early
It's a bit early for a comparison like this, yet. While Ubuntu 10.04 will definitely make an appearance in 10.04, M$ 8 will probably hit the ground running in 2015....or 16.....or maybe even in.....

And that's, of course, if..
And that's, of course, if M$ manages to survive until then.
Because, I'm a little optimistic that they won't make it until then.
And the reason for that is simple, ya know:
After their latest misery by blatantly cloning other people's stuff (i.e: the iPhone), as you can clearly see, I fail to fathom how a company with this pathetic strategy can make it through the next decade.

Probably survive
The elite who run the world will probably make sure that M$ survives. M$ is a monopoly and therefore it is one of their own. They know M$ will always behave in an un-democratic fashion, like all monopolies, and they can trust it to do their own kind of works. Because M$ will always be beholden to their financial power they know it will remain safely under their jackboots.
This same elite will always hate Free Software because it remains somewhat outside of their direct control.

Um...
How exactly did they clone the iPhone? From the design to the usage paradigm, they're entirely different products.

Oh come on..
I mean.. really.
Take a good look at it.
The Windows logo at bottom that looks almost exactly the same as the button at the bottom of the iPhone? The rectangular shape that memics the iPhone by almost 90%?
And of course, there's a saying that goes:
"What's dumber than cloning iPhone by 90%? -Cloning it by 100%."

I guess...
That Palm Pre and Android also did the same, since they have touchscreens? Or a screen in general? Or sound?
If you've seen the hands-on footage from Engadget, you'd know that it functions in a very different paradigm.
