Flash sucks, but...
I'm no great fan of Flash. Adobe has done a half-assed job on their Linux version. It's a huge CPU hog and it's typically the biggest security hole on any system, regardless of platform. Unfortunately, Flash has become ubiquitous on the web and a computer without it provides an incomplete user experience.
The article does mention installing swfdec or gnash as alternatives, but personally I haven't had much luck with them.
In order for Free Software to gain marketshare, users need a system that meets or exceeds their expectations. If we give them an incomplete, crippled system, they'll just go running back to M$, or worse yet, Mac.

Flash sucks, without any but :-)
Well, I really have never used it and have never needed to install it. The only thing when I meet Flash is only YouTube and similar sites, but you always can get direct link to download video to watch it or use separate special websites to get video without any flash. Really there is no need in it at all.
