Are we living the fast and dangerous life in Linux just because it's so bullet proof and safe? Think about that. I ask that question because I have honestly found myself in recent months openly ignoring, not consciously mind you, but unconsciously, long held safety and security practices whenever I'm on a Linux or BSD machine.
Finding an addictive computer game on a Friday evening can be dangerous. Instead of doing things you have been promising your wife, you spend the weekend in front of your computer playing the game and trying to explain that "this is for work." This is exactly what happened to me when I discovered Battle Tanks.
As the name suggests, Battle Tanks is an arcade-style game, where you drive a tank, pick up weapons, and blast enemies. While this doesn't sound like a particularly original concept, it's the implementation that makes the game so much fun to play.
I have always liked to have something "commie" in my life around me , ALT Linux is one more example. I have been using this distribution from Russia for past many year on different occasions for different lengths of time.
There is a strange disconnect in the thought that the CLI is dangerous and the GUI is safe. I think that as a general rule GUIs are more dangerous because they let users click randomly and make things happen without having any real knowledge.
If you love first person shooter games then you will enjoy Nexuiz. It is a fast paced game. The graphics are very good. You have a lot of weapons to choose from and can blast anything you see in sight.
What is winning? It's not "world domination". Winning is changing the rules of the game so that a dirty convicted monopolist does not control the industry, and Linux/FOSS can thrive without constantly having to fight just for the right to exist.
Okay: what rock have I been living under? Why have I not been introduced to this amazing game before? I'm serious: this game cannot be simply read about; you must download a copy and try it out for yourself. But maybe I'm getting too far ahead of myself.
