Practicality versus coolness
It really boils down to personal preference. Some people may be OK with a smaller screen and less storage. Especially if you ride on a train two hours a day to get to work and lug the thing around just to check some morning/evening emails. Though if your laptop tends to just move around at home, then a larger screen, faster processor and more storage just make more sense; as cute and cool as the little netbooks are... With that said I am betting that as the price of solid state drives come down, we will see these getting even more popular and even more economical. I wonder how many people bought one of these with Linux that doesn't even understand what an Operating System is? Well at least this is one way to start getting more people to see the benefits of Open Source by shaving the direct cost of their laptop from its Windows counterpart.
