An essay regarding what is the better way for new users to learn Linux. "There are many ways to learn Linux, and I can't think of one as being the 'best'. Of course, something may work for some users while failing miserably for others.

There's a lot of discussion about user experience around these days. That's good, though sometimes the focus is kept on solving "big issues" and a lot of the small everyday type things get missed.

I remember my first experience with PHP way back in 2001. Despite my questionable pedigree in ASP and Visual Basic, browsing an alphabetical PHP function list was enough to scare me away for years. Somehow, perusing the above list, I don't think things have improved a whole lot since then.

I am a big fan of the previously mentioned Remember The Milk productivity webapp. It does one thing– manages your Todo list– and it does it very well. Remember The Milk offers a clean web interface, as well as integration inside Gmail, Google Calendar, and even has an iPhone app. The only thing that was missing for me, though, was a simple interface for the Linux desktop.
