After long hours and endless work the Mythbuntu team is excited about the release of Mythbuntu 8.04. This release is built on the LTS base of Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. We would like to thank everyone that contributed in getting to this second release.

Mythbuntu is an Ubuntu derivative focused upon setting up a standalone MythTV system similar to Knoppmyth or Mythdora. Currently, it is a recognized as a community supported project by Canonical. Mythbuntu can be used to install a stand alone Frontend, Backend, or combination machines.

Last month, following the availability of Ubuntu 7.10 "Gutsy Gibbon" was the release of Mythbuntu 7.10. Mythbuntu is an Ubuntu derivative and has been around for less than a year, but they have been making great progress with this MythTV-optimized distribution.

Last November we had looked at Mythbuntu 7.10 and found it to be an excellent MythTV distribution. With its LiveCD MythTV front-end capabilities and intuitive Mythbuntu Control Center, this distribution is far more than just a re-branded edition of Ubuntu with a couple MythTV packages.

Mythbuntu Jaunty Jackalope alpha 3 is available. With this release, we are providing mirroring on sponsored mirrors only.

Today marks a historic day in Mythbuntu development. Over the last year we have been having discussions with several major cable companies in the United States regarding enabling CableCARD support for all Mythbuntu users. Late last year we reached an agreement with two of those major companies, Time Warner & Comcast.

I’m leading the Mythbuntu effort, and for our next alpha we are switching over to Xfce for our base. We were previously doing an openbox/feh/idesk method, but Xfce is much prettier.

Today we are introducing second Mythbuntu 8.04 alpha image. With this release, we are providing mirroring on sponsored mirrors rather than a torrent only release.
