"The Debian Live team is pleased to announce the first beta of Debian Lenny's Live images. Although we missed releasing images for Etch along with the installer images, we are now prepared to release live images within the regular Lenny release process.

To install E17, you need to download a DVD, dualarch Live CD, or a network-based CD ISO installation image. They, and not the Live CD images, gives you the opportunity to select what desktop environment to install. At some point during the installation process, you will get to the step shown in the image below. To install an E17 desktop, you need to choose the Other Graphical Desktops.

Kubuntu 11.10 is the latest stable release of the desktop Linux distribution sponsored by Canonical Ltd., a Linux software provider based in London, UK. It is based on Ubuntu, but uses KDE, the K Desktop Environment.

Paul Cutler interviews Ken VanDine, founder of Foresight Linux, on building images for the recent GNOME 2.18 Live Media release. Ken discusses his goals in helping create new GNOME Live Media, the tools he used in putting the different images together, and his plans for future GNOME Live Media releases.

FUSBi, the Free USB Installer, is a nifty, little application that creates bootable images of free GNU/Linux distributions on USB drives (or hdd if you want).
FUSBi supports all of the GNU/Linux distros recognized as free by the Free Software Foundation. These include gNewSense, UTUTO, Dynebolic, Musix GNU+Linux, BLAG and GNUstep.

Linux Deepin is a desktop distribution based on Ubuntu Desktop, but using a modifed GNOME 3 shell, not Ubuntu’s Unity desktop. It was founded by Liu Wenhuan, who is also a co-founder of Wuhan Linux User Group (LUG), a LUG in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province, China.

The Debian Live project has released live DVD images for Squeeze Alpha 1. The images are all 1 GB + (except for the Rescue and Standard versions), so that's a bit of a change from the Lenny era. One thing that's very notable: There are PowerPC images this time.
