About 20 years ago (shudder) I would often spend a Sunday afternoon playing Spectrum and Amstrad games with my good mate Keith. There was a small selection of games we'd play pretty often including some of the Julian Gollup games - Rebelstar, Rebelstar Raiders, Laser Squad and so on.

Linux might not have as much games as Windows (or game consoles) but people enjoying this wonderful open source operating system can have fun with games too, as there are a lot of free games for Linux available, even some huge commercial ones. Even Linux games are a niche market, Linux gaming has got a pretty colorful history so far. So what’s the state of Linux gaming?

Gaming on Linux? A few years ago this would only be said as a joke. Thankfully for us, linux gaming has evolved offering some mature open source games, as well as some very nice commercial games. Let’s try and find out what are the best 10 games a linux gamer must play this year…

Linux training has changed a lot in the last 10 years. I have put together a summary of the training options and styles we have provided over that period of time. Many things have changed of course and now with as little as 3% of computer users running Linux on a regular basis, training is really in an infant state. While OpenOffice.org Base is good for storing and querying data, it doesn't provide any easy way to chart information. This is exactly what Calc does best, with its dedicated chart module. If you want to visualize data stored in a Base database, you can write an OOo Basic macro that pulls data from a database, inserts it into a Calc spreadsheet, and then creates a chart. Here's how.
