XAMPP will do the same work for a newbie, without any trouble
I think the portable XAMPP from apachefriends.org will do the same work for a newbie. It gives no trouble. What is to be done is to just uncompress the downloaded file.
Maybe, for all other than newbies, its better to install all(L,A,M and P) of them alone.
