Ailurus is a GPL software, which aims at making Linux easier to use for beginners. Ailurus is available for Ubuntu, Fedora,Archlinux and Mint while Ubuntu Tweak is a dedicated Ubuntu only application.

To be frank, though we had posts about Ubuntu Tweak and similar app like Ailurus before, I never liked the idea of 'application to control other applications'(over simplification may be). This time I decided to give a good neat try at Ubuntu Tweak 0.5.5. And I have to say, I was quite literally blown away.

Ubuntu Tweak is a cute little application meant to make the life of Ubuntu user a lot more easier. It has a number of small workarounds which are really useful especially if you are a newbie Ubuntu user. Some of Compiz animations like "Show Windows" is not at all easy-to-find, if you are not using Ubuntu Tweak.

A new version of Ubuntu Tweak has been released today: 0.5.5. There's no official announcement yet, but the new version is now available in the Ubuntu Tweak stable PPA. Looking and the BZR changelog, there's only one new major feature in Ubuntu Tweak 0.5.5: PPA Purge (which was also available in the WebUpd8 PPA by the way), which you can now use from within Ubuntu Tweak.

Ubuntu tweak is a well known application which allows Ubuntu users to tweak various aspects of their system. I was browsing the Get Deb site and happened to find an application called Ubuntu Tweak which piqued my interest. I'm now wondering how I ever managed to use gnome with Ubuntu Tweak - I spent ten minutes tweaking settings that I didn't even know existed. I'm also wondering why this application isn't shipped with Ubuntu. This application is a must for new Ubuntu users and veterans alike.

Announced today by Ubun-student team that the name has been changed to "Ailurus",If you diden`t hear about ubum-stendent or Ailurus before, it is an application which aims at telling users Ubuntu enhancement tricks. It puts tricks in tool-tip text and "Tip of the day" window. Ailurus supports Ubuntu 8.04, 8.10, 9.04 and 9.10.

Tweak Ubuntu the old fashioned way. Well if old fashioned is using a GUI interface (like TweakUI for Windows) instead of command line tweak, then this is it! Great little open source project.

The UI has been radically redesigned. I have always liked Ubuntu Tweak's looks. The current redesign makes Ubuntu Tweak look very sleek and modern. Here's a screen shot:
