I have been busy the past month so I haven’t had a chance to try out the most recent builds of Gnome-Shell I looked today and I have to say its looking really slick.

A clean install of Ubuntu is not look very slick at all. To be frank, its pretty boring. But relax, if you follow this guide you will be able to get a ultra cool desktop like this one.

I recently read with great interest Walt Mossberg’s review of the latest Ubuntu Linux, described as “relatively slick,” but still not ready for non-technical users. I have a couple of differing perspectives. The first is that Ubuntu is ultra slick. It’s free. It’s open source. It’s growing. It’s Linux and it works (usually).

In the wake of the Firefox EULA issue, the well-known GNU/Linux news accumulation website, Linux Today, ran a very short editorial which came to the rather hurried conclusion that the free operating system does not need what it characterised as "slick marketing."

Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.2 and Windows Vista Service Pack One were both released in February of 2008. Linux Ubuntu released the latest version of its operating system, nicknamed Hardy Heron, in April. I tried out each of these three operating systems to see how they compared.

One of the coolest things about being a Linux user can be showing off your slick custom interface to your friends. With the maturing of Grub 2 and kernel mode setting, we’ll soon all have a beautiful boot from start to finish. The step we’re covering today is customizing GDM.

Some time ago I looked at GNOME and KDE, discussing their origins and differences, and I got a lot of great feedback. In particular, many readers mentioned that they’d love to see some coverage of some of the less-known alternative desktops available.
